The Form of Formless, the Semblance of the Invisible (2020)

Installation

3 x 3 x 3 m

“This is called the Form of the Formless, and the Semblance of the Invisible; this is called the Fleeting and Indeterminable.” (Laozi)

A color can change completely when viewed from a different angle. These changeable colors are randomly sprayed on surfaces, comprising a space that completely surrounds the viewer.

Here, a conventional viewing experience is abandoned, as the viewers’ visual experiences are based on their specific viewing angles. Every viewer has a different experience, which the artist may never have recognized or had. As viewers move through the space, they continue to have different experiences and perceptions. Every two-dimensional object here must be understood in the dimensions of time and space, and in their minds, viewers try to construct he objects in space, even though they will never have a comprehensive understanding of them. However, the objects are composed as a space in a complex way, and their indeterminacy is once again blurred and uncertain. This may be the moment when viewers find their own inexplicable yet concrete perceptions.
